College History
History :

The Government Arts and Science College at Dr.Radhakrishnan Nagar, Tondiarpet is a dream come true for many students, especially from the North Madras zone whose yearning for a government college that offers quality education at an affordable cost, has finally been fulfilled after decades of expectation, thanks to the colossal efforts of the late Honourable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Dr.J.Jayalalitha.

The Birth of the Institution :

The Government's mission to provide higher education to all young learners and aspirants was put into action when then Honourable Chief Minister made an announcement on 29 Sep 2015 that a new government arts and science college at Dr. Radhakrishnan Nagar, Tondiarpet will start functioning from the academic year 2015-2016. The corresponding G.O.Ms.No.439 dated 30.09.2015 immediately geared the Department of Higher Education into action. The University of Madras granted affiliation to the new institution vide letter No. A1/FFJ/2015-2016/847 dated 27.10.2015 based on the report that was submitted by the University Inspection Committee and the approval of the Syndicate. On 28 Oct 2015 the then Honourable Chief Minister inaugurated the functioning of the college through a simple video-conferencing. Since then, this premier educational institution of higher education is making great strides to achieve its vision and attain its mission. Three undergraduate courses in the following disciplines namely, English, Economics and Commerce were offered.

The foundation stone laying ceremony was held on 28/02/2016 on this 1.5 acres land with a financial sanction of Rupees Seven crores and twenty five lakhs for constructing the two-storey college building by the then Honourable Chief Minister Dr.J.Jayalalitha.

The college building was inaugurated through video conferencing by the Honourable Chief Minister Edappadi K.Palaniswami on 24/06/2017 and the college started functioning in this building from 26/06/2017.


Introduction of New Courses :

Undergraduate course in Corporate Secretaryship was started in the academic year 2016-2017.

In the academic year 2018-2019, three Undergraduate courses each in the disciplines of Computer Science, Mathematics and Tamil Literature and two Postgraduate courses each in the disciplines of Commerce and Economics were started. Additional Sections were created to accommodate more students in much sought after undergraduate courses in Commerce and Economics.
